Potassium persulfate, or K2S2O8 is an inorganic formula for a chemical, but more accurately known as potassium peroxydisulfate. The compound appears as a white crystalline solid with the chemical having a very sparingly soluble nature in cold water but fairly soluble in warm. This chemical is used extensively as a polymerization initiator for the production of several of very important polymers, including styrene-butadiene rubber and polytetrafluoroethylene. The bleaching agent, potassium persulfate, is also mainly used in hair and textile applications.
